APPLIANCE WIRING MATERIAL
Subj.758 Section 2 Page 2886 Issued:1977-08-29
Revised:2011-10-14
Style 2886 Jacketed Cable.

Rating200 deg C, 600 Vac, Horizontal flame.
Conductor18 AWG - 12 AWG stranded only.
InsulationFEP, 20 mils min average, 18 mils minimum at any point.
AssemblyTwo or three conductors. The cord is prepared for the spiral wound heating element Assemblyby carefully removing the FEP insulation along the length of the outer conductors so as to bare the copper conductor for approx 1/2 in widths at periodic intervals. A spirally wound nichrome or other type of resistance wire is then carefully wound the length of the cord. By varying the distance between contacts with the conductors, the number of turns per inch of resistance wire and the AWG size (resistance) of the spirally wound wire, different wattages per foot per service voltage can be obtained. A third conductor may be placed parallel to the assembly described above.
ShieldOptional.
CoveringOptional. 13 mils min at any point of extruded fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP).
JacketFEP, 20 mils min average, 16 mils minimum at any point.
Misc.Heating element - Nichrome, copper alloy or other suitable resistance wire is spirally wound around the insulation; the AWG size of wire, number of turns, length between contact with the copper conductor are dependent upon the wattage demand and the voltage used to energize the cable.
StandardAppliance Wiring Material UL 758.
