Subj.758 Section 2 Page 20003 Issued:1979-05-24
Revised:2012-07-23
Style 20003 Multiple-conductor cable using non-integral jacket

Rating150 deg C, 600 Vac, Horizontal flame, Moisture Resistant 75 deg C.
Conductor18 AWG - 12 AWG stranded only.
InsulationExtruded FEP, 10 mils min average, 9 mils minimum at any point.
AssemblyHeating Element - Nichrome, copper alloy or other suitable resistance wire is spirally wound around the insulation; the AWG size of wire, number of turns, length between contact with the copper conductor are dependent upon the wattage demand and the voltage used to energize the cable. Cable - Over two or three FEP insulated conductors laid parallel a 10 mil min avg, 8 mil min at any point wall of FEP is extruded to form a parallel cord. This cord is now prepared for the spiral woundheating element. This is done by carefully removing the FEP insulation along the length of the outer conductor so as to bare the copper conductor for approx 1/2 in widths at periodic intervals. A spirally wound nichrome or othertype of resistance wire is then carefully wound the length of the core, and may be soldered to the exposed conductor. By varying the distance between contacts with the conductors, the number of turns per inch of resistance wire and the AWG size (resistance) of the spirally wound wire, different wattages per foot per service voltage can be obtained. A third conductor may be placed parallel to the assembly described above.
ShieldOptional.
CoveringOptional - 13 mils min at any point of extruded ETFE or FEP.
JacketETFE, 30 mils min average, 24 mils minimum at any point. See facing page for compound.
